A Team representing the Bhutanese Community in The Netherlands (BCN) met a Dutch Parliamentarian Sadet Karabulut at her Chamber on 08-04-2019. During the meeting several issues concerning Netherlands based Bhutanese Community were discussed among which the following two issues were mainly highlighted:-
- Issue of elderly Resettled Bhutanese Community Members (who have never been to school) who could not apply for the Dutch Citizenship in spite of fulfilling every formalities except the mandatory language diploma.
- The issue of tourist visas to Dutch Citizen of Bhutanese origin who wanted to visit their country of birth Bhutan but were prohibited from getting a tourist visa by the Bhutan Government.
She said that she will discuss the issue about tourist visa to Bhutan with the concerned people in The dutch government and see the possibilities to raise the issue with Bhutan Government.
Regarding the first point about citizenship issue she asked the team to collect every documents concerning the difficulties of those elderly resettled Bhutanese and their appropriate letters from the respective councils. Then when she receives all such documents then she will proceed further towards finding the possible solution.
During the occasion a memorandum containing in details about the discussed issues and other documents regarding Bhutanese Community in The Netherlands and its activities were submitted.
“I was very interested to participate in your 10th year anniversary program of 18 February 2019 but due to my urgent engagement I could not join you there thats why I invited you all today here for an introduction and to listen your problems” said Mrs. Karabulut. She also expressed her happiness to meet the team and expressed her willingness to proceed further for the just resolution of the community issues raised.
On behalf of BCN Mr. Ram Karki thanked the Dutch Government for successfully resettling the Bhutanese refugees and for providing all sorts of assistance necessary for their proper settlement in The Netherlands.
