Former Bhutanese Refugees in COVID-19 effected Europe. An update by Ram Karki from The Hague.

Amidst grave situations of Coronavirus pandemic in Europe, resettled Bhutanese Communities residing in various European countries are safe and healthy as of today.

As per Mr. Purna Dahal, President of Association of Bhutanese Communities in Denmark (ABCD) all the resettled Bhutanese that numbered around 1000 are safe and healthy though Denmark is already under lockdown and already 161 people have died and 4,077 are positive due to Coronavirus as per https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/denmark/.

Likewise as per Mr. Aiman Samal, Mr. Khada Nanda Ghimire and Mr. Mohan Subba, President, General Secretary and Coordinator of Bhutanese Community in The Netherlands (BCN) respectively every resettled Bhutanese are safe and sound in The Netherlands. Around 400 Bhutanese community members in total are living in The Netherlands. Corona Virus has a huge effect in The Netherlands where as per https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/netherlands/ 1651 people have died till yet and 16,627 are infected with this virus. It is under intelligent lockdown since 16 March 2020.

In United Kingdom where 4313 people have died and 41,903 are infected as per https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/ but as per Mr. Prem Giri, Chairman of Bhutanese Welfare Association (BWA) almost all the resettled Bhutanese who constituted around 500 individuals are still safe and doing well. UK is also under lockdown at the moment.

In Norway as per Bhutanese Community leaders Mr. Ramesh Gautam, Mr. Rohit Kumar Pokhrel and Mr. Ram Bahadur Baniya, all resettled Bhutanese that numbered around 700 in Norway are safe till now. In Norway as per https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/norway/ 62 people have died and 5,550 people are infected with the corona virus.

Another European Country Belgium has also been badly effected by this pandemic and is under complete lockdown since second week of march 2020. As per Mr. Bhakta Subba, a Bhutanese Community leader residing in Antwerpen, they all are safe and sound till now. In Belgium till today 1283 people died and 18,431 are tested positive to COVID-19 as per https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/belgium/.
